Making Money: 3 growing businesses in the world while we were on lockdown

The crisis along with coronavirus affects the business differently. But even a virus can’t compete with “great minds” in business that was and will be developing like the production of medical masks and hand sanitizers since March.

DNA’s team has tried to analyze 3 examples from 3 different spheres to find out what has changed, developed, or increased.

During the pandemic on lockdown with the eyes to the bright future / Netflix

Most of our plans for this period like reading a book, keeping fit, learning a new language, or a new poem were faded away by the desire to watch Netflix with its new films and series on. According to the statistics, Netflix has had a surge in subscriptions up to 12 %.

Revenues as to the first 3 months of 2020 were $709 million that is twice more than the same time last year. Netflix has hit the new highs in Wall Street for 4.8 %. They assume to increase the income up to $800 million for the next 3 months. Interestingly enough the result is in case of stopping filming of some of the series in the 2nd half of March.

Even the march of Miami Ad School students covering the streets by posters of Netflix spoilers didn’t affect (or affect in a good way) the company’s streaming numbers.

Restaurants on lockdown or vice versa

Keeping a social distance is one of the main and most important demands for restaurants. Despite the lockdown, the restaurants and cafes were already on deliver service long ago.

But some concepts are even original-without deliver or traditional approach. Recently a Swedish couple has come up with a person concept for their restaurant. It will be open on the 10th of May. Bord för En (Table For One) restaurant is located in a lush meadow near Värmland and according to its concept, only one person can be served a day.

Rasmus Persson and Linda Karlsson hit on a restaurant idea when their older parents paid a visit to them. The couple has decided to follow the social distancing rules and the former chef Persson was passing the food to his relatives through the window. There is only one table and a chair in the garden with no waiters and the food gets to the guest in the basket along the rope. The couple plans to work till the 1st of August and yet the future if their “meadow business” is not certain. Though it is a worldwide known that people can’t hide their love for Swedish tables, especially gourmet ones.

Briefing with the team via Zoom

If we don’t pay attention to the damage of the economy, some professions are both flexible like a lucky businessman and relevant like a classic fashion. Many businesses in IT, marketing, PR, and even schools and universities have been engaged in distance working and learning. As a result, Eric Yuan, the founder of Zoom Video Communications Inc., has made $2 Billion USD during the lockdown. He is listed on the world’s 500 richest people with a $5.6 Billion USD fortune by adding $2 Billion USD to his net worth in 2020.

Shares of the video-conferencing company climbed 30% at the end of March. It has become a common thing to work, discuss or study remotely, so Yuan is going to be on the list of the richest people for a long time now.

And despite the difficulties and the restrictions we still shouldn’t forget about the idea or a concept we have been dreaming about and cherishing. With or without “health restrictions” we can start a business taking into consideration the fact of having Plan B and flexible minds.
