1.Hello, dear Ani. I want to thank you for accepting the invitation for an interview. Please, tell a little bit about yourself.
First of all, thank you for the invitation. I am a young psychologist, currently doing my postgraduate at the Russian-Armenian University, where I also teach and work as psychologist- trainer.
2. What is your greatest strength as a psychologist?
My strongest side is the adequate, objective perception of myself and the reality around me.
3. What capacities and skills do you think are vital to be a successful psychologist?
I do not think there is such a gold standard of the skills for psychologists who succeed. There are some common features, such as the ability to empathize, manage your own emotions, analytical thinking, the ability to constantly acquire new knowledge, calmness, patience, benevolence – features which are never superfluous for a psychologist.
4. Why did you decide to study psychology?
My love for psychology has begun already in my early school years. I realized that I was very interested in human relationships, emotions, conflicts, and I really wanted to understand their nature.
5. What are your strengths and weaknesses, and how do you overcome your weaknesses?
The greatest strength I mentioned above, always helps me to realize, understand my strengths and weaknesses, and this very perception helps me to overcome weaknesses by replacing them with new skills or getting rid of them completely.
6. What advice would you give to people who want to pursue a career in this field?
First of all, I think it is necessary to get a professional higher education, but in today’s world it is necessary to supplement the basic and theoretical knowledge with practical skills constantly, so I would advise all beginners to choose and to attend interesting, high-quality practical courses and trainings.
7. You deal with different people and their problems almost every day. What worries you themost in our society?
People’s problems are very personal and different, I think it is wrong to generalize. However, I’ll mention some of the main problems existing in our society: collective irresponsibility, which is most
noticeable recently, social inequality. However, I am happy to mention that there is a positive trend in sustaining own mental health. Why did you decide to join DNA Women’s Empowerment program?
I think that the issue of women’s rights protection is actual and of high importance in our society. As part of DNA project, I see the opportunity to be useful and to enrich my professional experience.
